مرض القلق العام او ما يعرف اضطراب القلق العام ( anxiety disorder او generalized anxiety disorder بالانجليزية ) هو حالة عقلية تتجاوز حدود القلق الطبيعي، حيث يتحول القلق من استجابة مؤقتة للضغوط إلى رفيق دائم يرافق الفرد في تفاصيل حياته اليومية. لا يرتبط هذا القلق بموقف معين أو سبب واضح، بل يتسلل إلى الأفكار كإحساس غامض بالخطر أو الترقب، حتى في أوقات الراحة. يعيش المصاب به في حالة تأهب داخلي مستمرة، كمن ينتظر حدوث شيء سيئ دون أن يعرف ماهيته. وعلى الرغم من إدراكه أن هذا القلق قد لا يكون مبررًا، إلا أنه لا يستطيع إيقافه، فيدفعه ذلك إلى الإفراط في التفكير، والتخطيط، والتردد، ومحاولة السيطرة على كل ما حوله لتقليل الإحساس بالعجز الداخلي.
